I’m not entirely sure why anyone in their right mind would go to Las Vegas for pleasure. I’m sure you’ll find some local somewhere that will disagree with you; vouching that Vegas is the greatest place on the planet. I’m not so sure you’ll find one who disagrees with how unpleasurable the non-locals are.Â
This being my second time to Las Vegas and not being an avid gambler at all, there wasn’t much draw for me. I, however unfortunate it was, was there for business and more specifically convention business. I could pine on for hours about what I didn’t like. But most of that is obvious.
So what exactly did I like? When you are captive to a culture which seemingly borders on your own by states alone, its an adventure. Here’s the highlights:
 1. The endless sandwich – Whole Foods in the Northwestern part of Vegas off of Charleston was a godsend. I created a sandwich that became my daily operation. One part Lavash bread, some brocoli sprouts, a whole foods brand of hummus spread, some vegan gourmet mozzerella, half an avocado, and half a package of raw White Wave tempeh.  There were a number of vegan options in the prepared food section, but if you are sodium restricted as well… you are essentially fucked. I used the mini-bar fridge as a makeshift cooler, though it pissed them off more than once… leaving my vegan cheese splayed across my room’s armoire
2. The fitness center – I was blessed enough to charge my 20 dollar a day invitation to the spa’s fitness center to my room. I used Technogym’s cardio wave which was a fucking beast. It was pretty easy to get up to 160 bpm’s in terms of heart rate. Of course, the air conditioning in that place didn’t do much to help my lungs.
 3. Turbulence – Oddly enough, both times over Vegas in a larger airplane, I experienced a large amount of turbulence. I’ve become less than happy with the concept since my Ohio jaunts on a smaller propeller plane back in the day. This time was supposedly due to the heat off the desert. Considering my third day out the winds were over 40 miles an hour, I’m definately never flying in anything small there ever.Â
