Entro (formerly known as Kid Entropy) is an emcee, writer, dj, and producer currently located in the Wicker Park/Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago.
In the mid to late nineties, he was known as one of champions of dark yet funky experimental drum and bass with a slew of releases on labels Cosmic Breaks, Black Monolith, Piruh and his own now defunct imprint Semiconscious Media. Barry Henssler, lead singer of the seminal punk band the Necros and Detroit based Sub Pop signed Big Chief, pressed the first record “Supernatty” b/w “For the love of it.” Its subsequent release garnered praise from the U.K. based music magazine, the Wire. It was even shortlisted in the all music guide to drum and bass. With the decline in quality of the music, he underwent a prolonged hiatus from production and dj’ing to focus on emceeing.
His past residencies on the mic included the now legendary Brockout! at Liar’s Club as well as the longest running drum and bass night in Chicago, the Seminar. As of recent, he has manned the position of resident emcee for Chicago’s largest monthly dubstep night, Bass Goes Boom. Entro has handled mic duties for overseas and stateside dubstep talent such as Benga, Hatcha, 6Blocc, Plastician, and Djunya. As well as providing toasting duties for some more eclectic sets for drum and bass dj’s such as Commix, Makoto, Sonic and Silver, Facs, and Black Sun Empire. He has even toured with Dutch gabber hybrid, the Outside Agency with old friends Dj Hidden and Dj Eye-d, to headline the industrial stage of the largest hardcore festival in Europe, Thunderdome.
His lyrical style is a crossbreed of London Grime, Old School Hip hop, and mild schizophrenia. Entro produces abstract stoner-esque hip hop under his own moniker in his loft with the help of his two cats and Logic 8. He’s involved in a slew of side projects including a solo dubstep project called Wall of Denzel with releases forthcoming on Chicago based Dubfront recordings, a bassline old school revival mutation called Deathface with Johnny Love from L.A. based Guns and Bombs, and small doom/drone/electronic sideproject called Golden Needles.
He listens to an unhealthy amount of stoner and sludge metal, takes electronics apart with no intention of reassembling them, and rides his bike pretty much anywhere he can. Admittedly, his first love is still writing as evidenced by his sporadic attempts at maintaining the blog in which you are visiting.
In emergencies, he can be persuaded with offers of warm vegan food.

andy (grafik) added these pithy words on Oct 07 07 at 3:13 pmhey entro (tim right?), i was looking for your contact info and this is all i could really find…so here i am. the reason i’m contacting you is cause i was wondering if you’d be interested in emceeing for a little while at a party i’m putting together oct. 20th.
my good friend chuck p., you may or may not know him (he’s been around for a long time), is having a birthday party at his loft/art studio on the corner of 19th and halsted. he asked me to take care of the music, so we’ll have three hours or so of dubstep along with various downtempo type stuff. so far i believe it’ll be mike 4/four and i playing the dubstep. usually when chuck has a party quite a few people show up and it’s a really good time…he’s had over 100 people over multiple times. we’ll also have decent sound.
he was at benga * hatcha last night commented on the fact that he loves to hear lyrics over dubstep multiple times, so i figured it’d be a pretty cool surprise.
obviously, there’s not any money involved here, so if that’s an issue for you i totally understand and wouldn’t hold it against you. otherwise, if you feel like coming by and having some fun that’d be fantastic, and if not, that’s cool too.
that’s about it…lemme know. grafik—-@—–.com

beverly nelson added these pithy words on Nov 24 08 at 5:35 pmno need to publish this. Just wanted to let you know I read this piece, twice…Since you wrote it, I hope times are better. There’s a wrong-thinking that goes along with aloneness, maybe you see this. Culture. I hope you are continuing to appreciate being solitaire. It is important to accept what we’ve been given. I say that but doesn’t mean I’ve learned it myself. But I think it is the key to living as alive, and not dead. Don’t be dead.
